STUDIES 

 

In young age he began studying piano in private, and than at the Liceo Musicale "G. Paisiello " in Taranto. 

 

After that he attended at the courses of piano, harmony and composition at the "St. Louis Jazz Academy " with teachers Stefano Sabatini, Riccardo Biseo and Bruno Tommaso. 

 

In 1997 he successfully got the Degree in Singing at the Conservatory "Licinio Refice" of Frosinone. 

 

Then he attended a one-year course of  "Director of Musical Theatre”  at the Theatre School "Ribalte" directed by Enzo Garinei in Rome. 

 

In 2007 he attended a course of training in “Musical Events Organization”, organized by the Region of Umbria.

 

During the academic year 2010-2011 he obtained a Master's Degree in “MANAGEMENT OF PERFORMING ARTS” at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome, with the highest honors and Laude

 

He is co-author and curator of the book entitled "THE PROFESSION OF THE AGENT IN THE LYRIC THEATRE OF ITALIAN OPERA" - Historical background, legal aspects, practical aspects and future prospects; Publish EDICAMPUS - series "Meeting of the Arts" (April 2016).

 

 

 

MANAGERIAL ACTIVITY

 

Since January 2014, he is General Manager at ITALIA LIRICA - Artist Management

 

In the same year he was appointed Artistic Advisor of the Festival "Lirica in Piazza" - Town of Massa Marittima.

 

In 2012 he was member of the Council of honorable Mrs. Gabriella Carlucci VII for the Cultural Commission of the Italian Chamber of Deputies -  Music and Performing Arts Department.

 

From 2011 to 2013 he worked as a secretariat for some lyric artists. 

 

From 2003 to 2008 he collaborated with the Ministerial Lyric Company "Opera Stage", holding various positions of responsibility, such as: artistic secretary, administrative secretary, production assistant,  stage director, providing major assistance in all phases of organizational and productive.

 

 

 

ARTISTIC ACTIVITY 

 

Multifaceted artist,  Massimiliano Damato has established himself as an Opera Singer, Stage Director and Composer. 

 

 

- STAGE DIRECTOR (from 2004 to today)

 

Since 2004, he signed several opera direction, always receiving wide acclaim from audiences and critics:

  • Cavalleria Rusticana (Mascagni) at “Teatro Savoia” in Campobasso (December 2006), 
  • La Traviata (Verdi) at  “Teatro Massimo” in Pescara (July 2007),  
  • La Traviata (Verdi) at “Festival Lirico di Casamari” (August 2007), 
  • Cavalleria Rusticana (Mascagni) at “Teatro Stabile” in Potenza (January 2008)
  • La Bohème (Puccini) at Festival “Lirica in Piazza” in Massa Marittima (August 2014)
  • La Bohème (Puccini) at Anzio Lyric Festival (August 2014)
  • La Bohème (Puccini) at Albano Lyric Festival (August 2014)

- OPERA SINGER (from 1998 to 2013)

 

His official debut as opera singer takes place in 1998, in the role of Colline in "La Boheme" (Puccini) at the Teatro Manzoni in Rome. In December 2005, he was selected for the role of Colline in "La Boheme" by G. Puccini - season of the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale "A.Belli" in Spoleto - under the direction of maestro Marcello Panni. 

 

During his career he has held positions of solo bass at Lyric Symphony Foundations and  Tradition Theaters in Italy (Roma - Teatro dell’Opera; Salerno - Teatro Verdi; Trapani - Luglio Musicale Trapanese; Mantova – Teatro Sociale; Messina – Teatro Vittorio Emanuele;  Agrigento – Festival della Valle dei templi;  Reggio Calabria – Teatro Cilea;  Spoleto – Teatro Sperimentale A. Belli; Perugia – Teatro Morlacchi; Rovigo – Teatro Sociale; Bolzano – Teatro Comunale;  Novara – Teatro Coccia; Ravenna – Teatro Dante Alighieri; Livorno – Teatro Goldoni; Savona – Teatro dell’Opera Giocosa; Festival Puccini di Torre del Lago, ecc…)   -  and in the main theaters of Switzerland, Germany, Spain, France, Canada, Malaysia, Indonesia, Georgia, Malta, Bolivia, Korea, Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands, etc ...

 

For several years he collaborated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, giving many concerts all over the world - even in the presence of Heads of State and Government.

 

He also participated in some television (RAI and Canale 5) and accounted for Radiorai and Radiovaticana. 

His operatic repertoire includes (in the main bass roles): La Bohème, Tosca, La Traviata, Carmen, La forza del destino, La Sonnambula, Rigoletto, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Don Giovanni, Otello, Madama Butterfly, Il Trovatore, Turandot, Andrea Chénier, Il Matrimonio Segreto, Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Pasquale, Aida, Don Carlo, Norma, Nabucco, Fedora, Lucia di Lammermoor, etc.

  

 

 

- COMPOSER (from 1989 to 2013)

 

Maestro Massimiliano Damato is also appreciated as a composer: his "New Millennium Missa” (for symphony orchestra, two choirs and four soloists ) was ranked in fourth position in the prestigious International Composition Competition of Sacred Music "Gaspare Spontini "(The jury masters: Goffredo Petrassi, Aldo Clementi, Gustav Kuhn, etc.).

 

 

 

TEACHING ACTIVITY (from 1998 to today)

 

During the academic year 1998-99 he was the Master Trainer and Director of the Chamber Choir of the "Center of Musical Practice" - Association for the Study and Practice of Ancient Music - in Rome.

 

He was nominated several times Member of the Commission for the examinations of singing  class  in State Conservatories of Music. 

 

He has given several master classes and conferences related to "vocal technique" and the "Italian Opera vocal interpretation" aimed at students and teachers of the prestigious University of Music in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), La Paz (Bolivia) and Jakarta (Indonesia ) on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

 

He teaches masterclass of Technique and vocal interpretation, Acting and Management of Performing Art  at the "Sonus Academy" in Rome.

 

In June 2014 he taught in a master class of "Artistic Management" aimed at students of "Management of Performing Arts" at the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia in Rome.

 

In October 2014 he was a member of the jury of the "Taipei 2014 Concours Mondial Chinese Vocalist" in Taipei (Taiwan). Afterwards he taught in a masterclass in Singing and Scenic Art at the "Ren Rong Performing Arts Centre" - Taipei City (Taiwan).

 

 

In May 2015 he gave a masterclass in singing and vocal interpretation at the College of Music S. Prokofiev in Pushkino (Moscow), Russia.
